LOVE IN THE BOI: Cydnee + Lumuli

Distance did not stop Cydnee and Lumuli from falling in love. This is their #LOVEINTHEBOI story

Cyndee Lumill.jpeg

How did you two meet?

We met in Kenya in 1999 - we were just friends after my 7 week stay in Kenya and he was one of the students who joined us with the program I was with. We wrote snail mail for over three years and then he wrote me and said “Even though you’re the furthest, you’re the closest to my heart”. I mean - how in the world can a girl say no to that? We talked for the first time on the phone over three years after we’d first met.

Describe Your First Date

First date? Well - that’s a bit difficult since we’d only spent time together on three separate occasions. But the first time I saw him after the initial trip to Kenya, I went to see him in England while he was working with students - while there, we walked to castles, met his friends and host family, toured London, read books, got to know each other - for 2 weeks! We planned for the next 3 week visit six months later in England again, and that’s when we got engaged!

What advice do you have for those looking for love in Boise?

Don’t get stuck on the nuances and habits and ideologies of the person you’re dating. All of that stuff changes. Pay attention to the character - that usually stays the same and will show itself early on in the relationship.

Where is your favorite place to go (or thing to do) together as a couple?

We are homebodies. We feel blessed to live in a beautiful home with a comfortable bed and a hot tub right outside our bedroom. Give us some wine and Netflix and we’re good to go.

Thank you Cydnee and Lumuli for sharing your #LoveInTheBOI story with me. You can follow Cyndee at @ashkiphoto.

Fall is in full effect here in Boise. From the foliage, to the pumpkin patches, to the cool, crisp weather, there’s no denying Boise is an amazing place in Fall. Here are 20 activities I feel you should cross off your Boise Bucket List this fall:

Do the Scarecrow Stroll @ Idaho Botanical Gardens:

Looking to see all types of scarecrows throughout a beautiful garden? Throughout the entire month of October, you can head over to the Idaho Botanical Gardens to checkout scarecrows created by local community organizations. You can vote for your favorite, as well as visit the pumpkin patch.

Linder Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

Who doesn’t like a good corn maze and pumpkin patch? Linder Farms is wildly popular and a must-see place for fall. From hayrides to pumpkin patches to petting zoos – there is no doubt you will have your fair share of fall fun.  You can visit Linder Farms Corn Maze the entire month of October.

Hoptober Freshtival, Downtown Boise

Beer lover? Look no further. Boise Brewing is hosting its annual Freshtival in downtown Boise. You will have a variety of beers to choose from, games to play, and downtown Boise as your backdrop. Event is October 6.

GO VISIT A PUMPKIN PATCH
Boise has its fair options for pumpkin patches. You can visit Linder Farms, the Farmstead Corm Maze, Idaho Botanical Gardens, or Jordan’s Pumpkin Patch and Tree Lot. Who else likes to carve pumpkins and roast the pumpkin seeds?

See a Classic Movie at the Egyptian Theater:

This fall, Boise Classic Movies has some of your favs coming to the Egyptian Theater: Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hocus Pocus, and The Shining - just to name a few. What’s fun about going to see a classic movie is that attendees are encouraged to dress up. For more info and to purchase your tickets, visit: https://boiseclassicmovies.com.

Hike Table Rock and See the Beautiful Fall Foliage

With all the amazing outdoor recreation, you cannot help but to be outside during this time. Seeing the leaves changes colors is one of my favorite parts of fall (aside from the cooler weather after a hot summer).  Hike up Table Rock (or any hiking trail, TBH) and enjoy the scenery.

Freak Out at Freak Alley

Freak Alley is one of Boise’s largest tourist attractions.  On October 5th, they are hosting their 1st annual fundraiser, a night where art, stories, and entertainment are combined.  The huge part is the story-telling from the artists, including a tale from the founder himself.  Click HERE for more info

No Escape at The Haunted World

Haunted World is proclaimed to be the scariest haunted house in Idaho. And I don’t doubt that! Since 2000, Haunted World has perfected the art of fear. It includes an indoor and outdoor haunted attraction. Tickets are only purchased at the door (NO online purchases). Click HERE to see for yourself. I will be going with a group - why not join me?! Join my New to the BOI Group for more info.

Become a bartender at Mai Thai’s Bartender School

Each month Mai Thai has hosted a bartender school, where you can learn how to mix our own craft cocktails. This fall, they are hosting a class on Sunday, October 28th called “Spooky Spirits.” Each attendee gets 3 cocktails, 3 appetizers, and enjoy learning how to mix drinks.  Follow Mai Thai on their Instagram page for more info.

Drive around Boise on the vintage trolley called Miss Molley Trolley. You will enjoy a narrative Halloween-themed tour for 90+ minutes. Tickets are $18. You can purchase your tickets HERE.
